My Hen Party was collected from our local pub and each and every person was dropped outside their house. What a great experience and the perfect way to start and end the night, I would recommend this service to everyone planning a night out! Thank you”

10 Mile run for St Luke’s

Why I am sponsoring ‘Test Track Ten’ –
A St Luke’s Hospice fundraising event

One of the reasons is, of course, that this is a very good cause… but that’s not the whole story.

Firstly, perhaps I should explain what ‘Test Track Ten’ is all about. It is a unique ten-mile run that takes place on the Ford Motor Company’s UK test track at Dunton, near Basildon in Essex. The event is now in its fourth year, and the 2014 run will be held on Sunday 23rd February.

Back to my reasons for sponsoring all the management and promotional costs for this event. Not only was my Dad made very comfortable at the Hospice prior to his death, but he had worked for the Ford Motor Company for 20 years. During his time there, employed as a shop steward, he worked closely with Albert Passingham, who featured in the 2010 film ‘Made in Dagenham’ (Bob Hoskins played his part in the film). Whilst on strike, my Dad fitted brass doorsteps, in order to continue to pay the bills.

Dad also loved running, and competed in many marathons and half marathons.

So, you see, there were several reasons for deciding to offer corporate sponsorship for this particular event.

Would you be interested in running on the famous Ford Test Track, and help raise funds for Basildon’s St Luke’s Hospice? The event attracts novice runners who want a challenge, as well as seasoned competitors. A wheelchair race will also be included.

The entry fee is £15 in advance or £20 on the day. For further information, visit the St Luke’s website: http://www.stlukeshospice.com/event.asp?id=363, or call Kerry on 01268 524973.

Pooch n Boots 2012

Press Release

Go ‘walkies’ to support local hospice

On Sunday 14th October, St Luke’s Hospice in Basildon will again be holding its popular sponsored dog walk, this year named ‘Pooch n Boots’. The event takes place at Westley Heights Country Park, Langdon Hills, starting at 10am. All the usual favourites will be included: 1 mile puppy / older dog walk; 4 mile walk; Best dressed; Best Behaved and Prettiest Pooch competition; Raffle Doggy Stalls and refreshments.

All the promotion materials for the event are being sponsored by Simon Holder, owner of the Wickford-based company Simon’s Bus.

Stewart Rutland, Corporate Fundraiser at St Luke’s said: “I am grateful for the support of Simon’s Bus and I would love to invite other sponsors to participate in some of the exciting events that we have coming up.”

Simon, who is shown in the photograph with a friend’s dog, Darcey, has supported this particular charity because his Father was looked after so well at the hospice before he passed away.

Notes for Editors

A high-resolution photograph of Simon and Darcey is available upon request. Darcey was named after Darcey Bussell the ballerina (and the new judge on the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing) because, like Pudsey, she loves to jump and walk on her hind legs!

Simons Bus is not just a minibus company. With 16 passenger seats, each bus is capable of safely and legally transporting large groups whilst providing on-board entertainment, optional music video on large screen TVs, party lights and a superb sound system.

St. Luke’s Hospice provides specialist care for people who have an advanced disease, as well as those who love and care for them, in a warm caring and friendly environment. Without the generosity of businesses, clubs, organisations and individuals, the hospice could not continue to provide a quality and much–needed care service.

Modern ‘chariot’ helps fundraising for local hospice

Modern ‘chariot’ helps fundraising for local hospice

St Luke’s Hospice in Basildon received a boost to its funding this month, when a group of trekkers were sponsored to walk the length of Hadrian’s wall, the defensive fortification in Roman Britain. To set the walkers on their way, Simon Holder, owner of the Wickford-based company Simon’s Bus, provided transport to and from London’s Euston Station, free of charge. The trek raised £9,000 for the hospice.

The group followed the 84-mile-long wall as closely as possible, only having to go off course for a small part of the walk because of flooding. Event co-ordinator Ed Pearce said “It was so nice being picked up by Simon’s party bus, as travelling home on the tube would have seemed like an anti climax”.

The Simon’s Bus company and St Luke’s Hospice are corporate partners. The company often puts on free transport, and sometimes directly funds events. “The reason this is my chosen charity is because my Dad was looked after so well at the hospice before he passed away,” said Simon, adding, “I am keen to give something back”.

The trekkers certainly seemed happy with their expedition, as they were singing for the entire journey back from London!
